No Humbug: Australian Photo Review Digitized

The complete run of the Australian Photo Review from 1894-1956 has been digitized and made available by the State Library of New South Wales. The description of the editor, Edwin J. Welch, is something FDTimes might consider: “Bluntness is also one of his strong points, combined with a fluent facility of expression when he gets badly aggravated; he likewise abhors humbug and discerns it from afar.”

Panasonic Super35 AU-EVA1 Cine Camera

Pansonic’s camera shown under wraps at NAB was unveiled at Cine Gear Expo. Sony Full Frame 24x36mm Cine Camera

Sony announced plans for a new Full Frame 24x36mm high-end CineAlta digital motion picture camera system at Cine Gear. The big news was the big picture. Few additional details were revealed. Full Frame 24 x 36 mm image sensor. Aspect ratio agnostic – including Full Frame, Super35 full height Anamorphic, Spherical 16:9 and 1:85:1 and 2.39:1. The resolution of Super35 anamorphic (18 x 21.6 mm image area) was announced to be 4K. Angenieux AngeNews: Andurand and Sprauel

Pierre Andurand (above left) was in LA last week to introduce his successor Emmanuel Sprauel (right) to key Angenieux partners. Pierre has been CEO and President of Thales Angenieux for a little more than 5 years. He moves on to a VP position at Thales Air Systems. This is a natural progression—successful Thales executives are usually promoted within the Group every five years. Among Pierre’s accomplishments at Angenieux, he was responsible for key decisions in the renewal and growth of the Angenieux lens portfolio (30-72, 56-152 and 25-250, 44-440, Optimo Style and Type EZ series… and more to come)

Scorpiolens Anamorphic 25 and 150mm

At Clairmont Camera in Hollywood, Brett Reed and Denny Clairmont were busy on Tuesday unboxing and testing the first Scorpiolens S35 25mm and 150mm Anamorphics from Servicevision. Canon Cinema EOS C200 & C200B

Canon presents 2 new Cinema EOS digital cine cameras at Cine Gear: Canon EOS C200 and EOS C200B. C200 and C200B cameras have two 4K video formats inside: Canon’s new Cinema RAW Light and MP4. Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus system. The cameras come in two configurations–same insides; variations outside. C200 is the full production-ready camera package that can be used right out of the box, with an LCD Monitor, nice mounting brackets, Camera Grip and Handle and a 1.77 million dot OLED pivoting Electronic View Finder (EVF) at the rear. Keslow Camera’s Cinefade Demos

Keslow Camera (Culver City) will host Cinefade Demo Days on Tuesday, May 30 and Monday, June 5. Cinefade is a variable depth-of-field/aperture device. Chris Doyle Angenieux Award at Cannes

At a black tie event in the Salle Bunuel theater at the Cannes Film Festival, Christopher Doyle HKSC was presented this year’s Pierre Angenieux lifetime achievement award for cinematography. Accepting his prize–an Angenieux Optimo 15-40 T2.6 zoom–Chris said, “This is something I can use every day and will cherish. It’s much better than a statue that sits on a shelf.” read more…
