What lenses fit ARRI’s next S35 4K camera?

Will standard 35mm lenses (before Open Gate era) cover ARRI’s next, new Super35 camera? ARRI Camera Systems Product Manager Marc Shipman-Mueller was kind enough to elucidate. “Yes, the sensor has almost the same dimensions as the ALEXA Mini Sensor,” Marc said. “I think that is an important feature of this camera. We want to make sure that our customers’ extensive investment in Super35 glass is protected. Without giving away too much, we have a 4K (4096) 16:9 recording mode for spherical lenses that has a diagonal of 28.55 mm and a 6:5 recording mode for 2x anamorphic lenses that has a diagonal of 27.39 mm. Canon EOS C70 4K Super35 Cine Camera

This is the first Canon Cinema EOS Camera with an RF Mount. It has a Super 35mm Sensor. If you’re familiar with the C300 Mark III, you’ll be at home with many of the C70 capabilities. Why would you want a new EOS C70 4K Digital Cinema Camera then? Because it is smaller than the C300 Mark III, is half the cost, has a versatile RF mount,  can record H.265 video. Canon explained, “One request that Canon consistently heard was to put an RF mount on a Cinema EOS camera so that future lens performance could capitalize on the short flange depth. John Brawley and The Great New 12K Camera

Grant Petty introduced the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini  Pro 12K on July 16, 2020. It has a 12,288 x 6,480 12K Super35 image sensor, 14 stops of dynamic range,  and shoots up to 60 fps in 12K at 80 megapixels per frame as well as  8K up to 110 fps, and 4K DCI full sensor up to 110 fps. One of the first cinematographers to try it was “The Great” John Brawley (who shot “The Great.”) His demo footage showed silky smooth skin tones, gorgeous color and low to no noise. read more…

Canon EOS C300 Mark III S35 Camera

Canon’s new Super35 4K EOS C300 Mark III camera was introduced on April 20 and should ship later this year. It records Cinema RAW Light and XF-AVC internally, has electronic image stabilization, and a Dual Gain Ouput Sensor with improved dynamic range. The Dual Pixel Focus Guide eyepiece display shows whether you’re near focused or far and when you’re right on, it glows green.
