Codex Onboard S, 4K M Recorder, Vault

At NAB 2012, Codex showed their new compact Codex Onboard S Recorder (above, modeled by Codex’s Sarah Priestnall and Marc Dando). It works with compact HD cameras like the Sony PMW-F3, Canon EOS C300 (as well as C500 and ARRI Alexa in HD mode). Data is recorded onto Codex’s small, new Capture Drives from the HD-SDI output of the camera.

From AbelCine, here’s a video of the Codex Onboard S with Ian McCausland interviewing Codex application specialist, Laura Redpath.

Codex Onboard M Recorder on Canon C500 with Vocas rig

Codex had first dibs on one of the Canon C500 preproduction cameras, and showed a superb short film done in London, Berlin, Miami and Los Angeles. It’s now online. The 3-minute Codex demo “4K 4 Cities” was shot by cinematographers Martin Ruhe, Ben Seresin, ASC, BSC and Tony Pierce-Roberts, BSC, with color grading by Greg Fisher, colorist on “Hugo”. This was a practical demo of recording 4K Canon RAW from the C500 onto the Codex Onboard M Recorder.
