Theo van de Sande, ASC on VariCam 35

This is an interview with Theo van de Sande, ASC on his first experience with the Panasonic VariCam 35 camera. He said, “I worked with it for seven days. I love the idea of shooting simultaneously in 4K and 2K or proxy inside the camera itself. Immediately, I worked with the 5000 ISO setting because one of our locations was a very dark bookstore in downtown LA. Shooting at 5000 ISO was “crazy.” It’s a completely different ball game. Your eyes are not used to it and we cinematographers are not used to it. I had to adapt very quickly to this new, low light level.” read more…


Panasonic Varicam 4K Ships

 Panasonic VariCam 35 and VariCam HS cameras are shipping. The VariCam 35 has a 35mm sensor, PL mount, and records 4K RAW,  4K, UHD, 2K, HD and ProRes. The Varicam HS has three 2/3″ sensors, B4 mount, and records 1080p up to 240fps. Both models will offer Apple ProRes 4444 and ProRes 422 HQ and both include Panasonic’s AVC-ULTRA family of codecs.
