The new Leica X Vario is an APS-C format camera with a 16.5 megapixel CMOS sensor camera and an attached Leica Vario Elmar 18-46 mm f/3.5-6.4 ASHP lens.
It does HD video recording at 1920 x 1080 30P, MP4.
Style and function follow the Leica M. The Leica X Vario has a compact body whose top piece is machined from solid aluminium, just like the M.
Switching between manual and automatic control is easy. Live View is displayed on a high-contrast, 3-inch monitor or the optional (essential) EVF 2 Viso-Flex electronic accessory viewfinder (1.4 megapixels and 90° swivel function).
The Leica X Vario in black finish and its optional accessories are now available from authorized Leica dealers. The camera costs around $2,850. (The new Leica M full-frame camera is around $6950, without interchangeable lens.)
