Four working ARRI Alexas were the objects of attention for over a thousand guests at the DGA on April 7th, from 5pm – 10pm. There were many surprises. Alexa now supports two onboard SxS memory cards. Scenes are recorded as Quicktime .mov Apple ProRes files for simple direct-to-edit production. Insert the card into a laptop or reader and start editing immediately. Second surprise: open architecture, even the lens mount. It seems to be a simple matter to swap the PL mount for a Panavision, Canon, Nikon, Leica or almost any other lens mount. On board batteries: standard Anton Bauer or IDX or Pag 12volt.
Another big surprise: two new Arri-Fujinon Alura zooms. 18-80 T2.6 and 45-250 T2.6. Front diameters: 134mm.
A new 12mm T1.3 Zeiss Master Prime.
Many more details to follow as we follow Alexa to Las Vegas for NAB.
