Sony Full Frame FE 50mm F1.4 ZA Prime Lens

Sony FE 50mm 1.4

July 11, 2016 –

Sony Electronics has just introduced a new Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 ZA lens with an E-mount. It’s part of the Sony/ZEISS strategic partnership that includes the 16-35mm F4, 24-70 F4, 16-70mm F4, 135mm F1.8, 55mm F1.8, 35mm F1.4, 35mm F2.8, 24mm F2, and 24mm F1.8 lenses.

The new Sony/ZEISS FE 50mm prime lens has excellent contrast, resolution and sharpness from corner to corner at all apertures. There are 9 optical 9 groups and 11 glass elements, including 2 of Sony’s AA (Advanced Aspherical) and 1 ED (Extra-low Dispersion). With an 11 blade iris, this lens has a range from f/1.6 to f/16. Early reports indicate the lens has smooth and distinctive bokehs.

One very interesting thing about bokehs. Take a look at this image on DPReview from a recent test, and notice the oval bokehs. OVAL BOKEHS! In a spherical lens. Isn’t this usually reserved for anamorphic lenses with front cylindrical elements? More on this to come.

Meanwhile, here are some specs:
