The beautiful, new  Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center is now officially open in Burbank. It is located at 3400 West Olive Ave., Burbank, Calif. — near Warner Bros, Disney and The Burbank Studios. The new location is much more convenient than Canon’s previous, colorful 6060 Sunset Boulevard facility. Visitors will appreciate underground parking in the building and carnivorous Canon customers can consume Jurassic slabs of meat at Morton’s The Steakhouse next door. They also serve crustaceans, fish and vegetables.

Canon’s Burbank new 12,000 sq ft facility is the company’s new center for service, product demos, educational events, technical support, screenings, gallery exhibits and product displays. With major studios and rental houses a few minutes away, camera crews, professional clients and Canon’s business partners can come in for expedited repair service, hands-on technical support, and script-to-screen workflow advice.

Let’s take a quick tour. As you enter the second floor reception area, the first thing you see is an interior set with a nice lighting grid overhead, encircled by the latest Canon cine cameras with Canon lenses. You check in with the receptionist and ask if it’s OK to dim all the lights because you want to feast your eyes on the new Canon C200’s high ISO of 102,400. She says, “Hang on a second—a Canon technical rep will be happy to help.” Tim Smith and Loren Simons magically appear with iPad and Luminair app to help you wirelessly adjust the LEDs.

But that’s not really why you drove here from Burbank Airport a few miles away, after various connections from Katmandu. You just wrapped a 2-month doc in the Himalayas and it would be nice if someone could go over your Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 COMPACT-SERVO Cinema Zoom Lens. Oh, and by the way, can they do it while you wait because you fly to Finland tomorrow?

Near the service area, there are showcases of cameras, lenses, accessories and printers. Yes, you can print out test photos on the Canon inkjets. The walls are lined with a gallery exhibit of fine photographs.

Of course, there’s a state-of-the art espresso counter with Nespresso pods from decaf to Ristretto. It café opens onto a large terrace for relaxing or shooting exterior camera tests.

Speaking of tests, you have, of course, called ahead to request support for your upcoming Finland production. Canon tech reps are waiting in the large studio and workflow demo room. They are ready to help you define the show look you’re looking for (white nights, lots of snow, bad guys in black suits—in short, insanely wide exposure range) and Joe Bogacz happens to be on hand with the latest Canon DP-V2420 24” UHD 4K HDR Reference Display.

The beauty of the Canon Professional Center is the ability to take you through the entire chain of events and simulate every step along the way from shooting to DIT work, data wrangling, on-set, near-set, grading, dailies, projection and DI. A state-of-the-art  screening room is ready, with Barco 4K DP4K-P projector, servers, AJA KUMO 6464 3G-SDI video and audio router, SGO Mistika grading systems, great audio and very comfortable chairs.
