Panasonic Super35 AU-EVA1 Cine Camera

Pansonic’s camera shown under wraps at NAB was unveiled at Cine Gear Expo. The Panasonic AU-EVA1 is a new, compact, lightweight 5.7K cinema camera that fits in a backpack and shares many qualities of the Varicam LT, VariCam 35 and VariCam Pure product line.

The AU-EVA1 has a new 5.7K Super35 sensor. This results in a superb image when down sampled to 4K, UHD, 2K, or 720p. The increased color information results in a finer, more accurate finished image.

The AU-EVA1 has Dual Native ISO like its bigger siblings in the VariCam line which lets you choose between 5,000 or 800 speeds. You can switch from standard sensitivity to high sensitivity without increased noise or artifacts. The 5000 ISO setting has been extremely on low light and night shoots. The EVA-1 camera is currently being tested to determine final ISO specifications. The EVA1 has V-Log/V-Gamut and color science of the other VariCams.

EVA-1 has a removable handgrip. With grip, it will be a compact, lightweight handheld camera. Without the grip, the EVA1 will be at home on a drone, gimbal, rig or remote head. There are also many mounting points.  Panasonic is  working with accessory companies for additional customization.

EVA1 records to SD cards in several formats and compression rates: up to 10-bit 4:2:2, 400 Mbps in 4K. For slow motion, it records 2K up to 240-fps.

There’s an  ND filter wheel between the EF mount and the sensor–in 2, 4, and 6 stop increments. You can swing the IR Cut filter out of the way at the push of a button for interesting photographic effects and night vision shots.

Connectors include dual balanced XLR audio inputs and 4K HDMI and SDI video outputs. In a future firmware upgrade, EVA1 will offer 5.7K RAW output to 3rd party recorders.

Panasonic is positioning the EVA-1 between their Lumix GH5 4K mirrorless camera and the VariCam LT. The EVA1 will ship this Fall for under $8,000 (body only).

  • Weight: 2.65-lbs (1.2Kg, body-only)
  • Size: 6.69” x 5.31” x 5.23”
  • Recording: Internal SD cards
  • Mount: EF mount

    Hi,
Can we find out if this camera will do Centre Crop s16 as Sony fs7? So we can use b4 lenses.

      “Hi Jiri,
Panasonic will post detailed specs and information later this summer as we get closer to the camera’s release in the Fall. While I cannot specifically answer your question, I can state that it will function in a way that you wish and beyond that in a way that I believe will make you happy. Cryptic I know, but that’s what I can state for now.
