Canon C300 Cameras win Cannes

Canon C300 Cameras shot the Cannes Film Festival Palme D’Or winner, Blue is the Warmest Color (La Vie d’Adèle). Two cameras were provided by PhotoCineRent in Paris. Because production lasted 4 or 5 months, the cameras were purchased by the producers instead of rented. The cameras came with Canon mounts, and files were recorded internally to CF cards. Two Angénieux 28-76 mm Optimo zooms were… read more…

Philippe Rousselot, ASC, AFC, ExcelLens

It was the best of times. It was about time. Victoria Abril declared, “the award was not a moment too soon.” This is the first time the Cannes Film Festival has honored the work of a cinematographer. The first annual Pierre Angenieux Award for Cinematography at Cannes was presented Friday, May 24, to Philippe Rousselot, ASC, AFC by Angénieux President and CEO… read more…

Angénieux ExcelLens Cannes Award

It was a spectacularly synchronized event that began at 6:30 pm under sunny skies in Cannes. A strong sea breeze buffeted the Croisette, but hardly rocked the mega yachts moored alongside the festival hall. Flashes from the phalanx of photographers illuminated the red carpet and climb to the gates of cinematic heaven. Heaven could wait; champagne appeared on the terrace… read more…

Red Dot on Red Carpet

I’m at the Cannes Film Festival trying out new Leica M. While 4500 members of the press are covering this event, which I’m told gets more coverage than the Olympics, the presence of an M is noteworthy. It turns heads. Leica M cameras are still almost as hard to get as some of the stars and starlets, with a back-order… read more…

I Shot It Website

This is in the “why didn’t I think of it” category. There have been film and photo competitions online, but here’s a self-supporting one. Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, majority shareholder of Leica Camera AG, has acquired a 25.1% stake in the Internet company and website “I-shot-it”. You pay a small fee, and www.i-shot-it.com gives you access to take part in photographic… read more…

Digitaloptik Image Circle Extender

There are a lot of great lenses, especially zooms, designed in the days of the Academy format, that have been relegated to back shelves when Super 35 and larger sensor cameras came out. Despair no more; dust off your venerable Angénieux and Cooke classics. Ken Robings’ digitaloptik introduced a new 1.21x PL-to-PL extender at NAB. It takes zoom lenses designed… read more…
