ARRI ALEXA 35 Live – Multicam System

“ARRI is introducing a completely new camera system called the ALEXA 35 Live – Multicam System, said Marc Shipman-Mueller, ARRI Senior Product Manager. “It is for live production applications such as concerts, musical events, sports, esports, TV shows, fashion shows, scripted content, comedy specials, etc. This is a major commitment by ARRI to the live entertainment sector, bringing together specialist cameras, stabilizers, lighting, and custom solutions. The Business of the Business: CVP

Fitzrovia, London. January 28, 2020. Jon Fry, Darren Simpson, Yevgeny Subbotin, Aaron George and I met in the nicely appointed club at CVP Creative Space on Charlotte Street. As often happens in our world of moveable feasts, we soon adjourned to continue the discussion at Berners Tavern.

In a large elegant room festooned floor to ceiling with paintings, the menu included traditional British pork pie prepared tableside with showmanship, chargrilled Buccleuch Estate Scottish beef with triple cooked chips, battered Cornish haddock with crushed peas. As anyone familiar with this CVP and FDT cast of characters, the drinks and wine flowed copiously. read more…

ARRI Accessory Rail System ARS

ARRI’s Accessory Rail System ARS consists of Rails that attach to camera or mattebox, and Cubes that slide onto the rails and provide  3/8-16 and 1/4-20 mounting points for accessories, monitors, motor drivers, video transmitters, focus aids and whatever else you need to attach to the growing Christmas tree that is the camera.

ARRI Handle Extensions HEX

Once upon a time, there was an ARRI top handle called CCH-4. Its full name was Camera Center Handle 4. But not all camera crews carry cameras the same way. And so, the ARRI PCA team conceived of a modular  system of handle extensions.  The ARRI Handle Extensions HEX system carries on the design of the Camera Center Handle CCH-4. Each component can be connected in multiple ways to extend out from the top handle. It lets you customize your own top handle or turn it into a Hollywood Handle.

ERM Wireless Range Extenders for ARRI

Seen at BSC Expo 2020, ERM Radio Modules by FoMa Systems let you work with ARRI and cmotion hand units, as well as SRH Remote Heads, at greater wireless distances from the camera. The ERM system works in pairs: one as a transmitter and the other as a receiver, using spread spectrum frequency-hopping technology for a long range and secure conncection. CVP Large Format Test with ARRI

CVP recently hosted a Large Format event in collaboration with ARRI at the CVP & ARRI Creative Space. The CVP team set up a test with the ALEXA LF, ALEXA Mini (fitted with LPL mount) and ARRI Signature primes. The lenses were 18, 25, 35, 47, 75 and 125 mm. The event was overseen by CVP Account Manager Aaron George, who prior to joining CVP in 2017, spent almost 12 years at ARRI as UK Head of Camera Service. read more…

All Roads Lead to CVP

CVP has been doing business for 30 years in the United Kingdom and Europe. Now they have opened a veritable playground for camera crews in a unique showroom in Newman Street, London. Their CVP Fitzrovia townhouse is called CVP Creative Experience and has five floors of production equipment from major manufacturers, including Sony, Canon, ARRI, RED, ZEISS, Panasonic, Blackmagic and many more.

With NAB 2019 approaching, it’s good to review CVP’s impressive showing at BSC Expo 2019. Their exhibit serves as a model for many expos to come. The exhibit area was thoughtfully laid out–with lots of space and room to move. There was a lens bar, Macro area with little live creatures, studio setup area on tripods and heads, handheld arena, gimbal and drone park, monitor wall, and an enormous bar and lounge area. read more…

ARRI Alexa SXT Updates

ARRI has been upgrading Alexa XT cameras to Alexa SXT since IBC (early September 2016). There are two different upgrade paths for those who have received XT cameras in 2015 or 2016 (Keep & Buy and SXT Upgrade 15/16) and one upgrade for XT cameras shipped in 2013 or 2014 (SXT Upgrade 13/14). “A Beautiful Planet” – Canon, IMAX

Three Canon EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Cameras and two EOS-1D C cameras were sent to the International Space Station for the IMAX production A Beautiful Planet. FDTimes discussed the technique and technology of this production with James Neihouse, ASC and Marsha Ivins, along with Tim Smith and Leigh Nofi of Canon. As Variety wrote, “Short of putting Emmanuel Lubezki through Astronaut training, it’s difficult to imagine more rapturously beautiful images of the Earth from orbit than those supplied by A Beautiful Planet, the latest collaboration between IMAX and NASA.” read more…

Schaller, artemis and Trinity at ARRI

Artemis stabilizers, Trinity and Curt Schiller have all moved from Sachler – Vitec to ARRI. Trinity is a stabilizing rig combining Maxima gimbal and body stabilizer. Curt Schaller, BVK is a camera operator turned inventor who designed artemis and is head of the product line.
